The closest Airback alternatives are other vacuum compression backpacks: the Flovir Air Pro (from $149, pump included), the VacPack ($169.99) and the Black Voyage Zephyr Pro (from $239.99, pump included). If you don't need a sealed vacuum chamber, compression packing cubes inside a regular under-seat backpack cost less and weigh less.
Full disclosure: we make the Flovir Air Pro vacuum backpack. Airback is a separate company with no connection to Flovir. So we start with what Airback does well, and every competitor fact below is as listed on that brand's own site, checked in October 2026.
What does Airback do well?
Airback sells a wide range, from under-seat backpacks to a wheeled suitcase. Its US store (airback.us, the US option in the country menu on airback.store) lists the Original carry-on backpack from $219, the GO under-seat backpack from $199, the wheeled FLEX from $239, the wheeled MAX from $299 and the NEXT suitcase from $499.
The GO is the standout for strict airlines. Airback lists it at 40 x 30 x 15–20 cm (about 15.7 x 11.8 x 7.9 in at full depth) and 1.3 kg (2.9 lb), which sits inside an 18 x 14 x 8 inch personal-item limit on paper.
A few more things Airback gets right, as listed on their site in Oct 2026:
- A 100-day return window, longer than most bags in this group.
- A 3-year warranty on every model.
- USB-A and USB-C ports and an optional built-in weight handle (+$20) on the Original.
- A large review base: 4.73 out of 5 from 1,608 reviews on the Original's product page.
Why do people look for an Airback alternative?
Usually it comes down to the pump, the price or the return terms. The bag-only price doesn't include Airback's pump. Their FAQ says the pump isn't required but is recommended for the best compression, and the Air Pump Pro is listed at $79 on its own, or $30 more ($249) as the Original "Travel Ready Set."
Returns are the second point. Airback's refund policy says return shipping isn't covered, and the return address it lists is in Zaandam, the Netherlands.
Size is the third. The Original is 49 cm (19.3 in) long, so it's a carry-on, not a personal item, on airlines with an 18-inch limit.
American Airlines, for example, lists its personal-item limit as 18 x 14 x 8 inches (checked Oct 2026). Our personal item size chart by airline lists the others.

All figures as listed on each brand's own site, Oct 2026. Airback lists centimeters; the inch figures are our conversions.
1. Flovir Air Pro: best if you want the pump in the box
Compared with the Airback Original, the differences are what you get for the money: the Air Pro starts at $149 with the rechargeable vacuum included, and there's a 17-inch version for under-seat travel.
Based on published dimensions, the 17-inch Air Pro (17 x 12.6 x 6–8 in) fits an 18 x 14 x 8 inch personal-item limit when you keep the depth at 8 inches or less. The 19-inch version does not; treat it as a carry-on.
Where Airback does better: the Original has USB ports and an optional weight handle, the Air Pro doesn't. Airback's return window is 100 days to our 90, though our return label is prepaid. Airback also offers wheeled models; we don't.
2. VacPack: the lowest listed price for a 55-liter bag
VacPack lists its backpack at $169.99 on myvacpack.com, with a Pocket Vacuum shown as a free gift in the purchase options. It lists 30 liters regular and 55 liters with the extension and compression, at 3.9 lb. That's more volume than the Airback Original for less money.
The catch is depth. VacPack lists 24 cm (9.8 in), deeper than an 8-inch personal-item limit. Read the return terms too: the product page shows a 30-day guarantee, while the refund policy page says 14 days and a 30% restocking fee for returns that aren't defective.
Consumer Reports tried the VacPack in June 2025 and found the pocket vacuum "compressed clothing as promised." Other sites sell bags under similar names at very different prices; the figures here come from myvacpack.com, the store Consumer Reports' review points to. Our VacPack vs Black Voyage comparison goes deeper.
3. Black Voyage Zephyr Pro: best for long trips and wet weather
Black Voyage includes its Vortex pump with the Zephyr Pro and backs it with a lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects, the longest coverage here. The larger Zephyr Pro goes from 35 to 60 liters, and Black Voyage lists an IPX8 waterproof vacuum chamber.
You pay for that in price and weight. The 35→60L model costs $239.99 (Pro Lite) to $319.99 and weighs 4.56–5.22 lb. Returns run 30 days, with a 10% restocking fee and buyer-paid return shipping unless you add their Shipping Protection at checkout.
4. Compression cubes in the bag you already own: best on a budget
Compression cubes squeeze clothes with a second zipper. No pump, no battery, nothing to charge. Eagle Creek lists its Pack-It Reveal Compression Cube Set at $50, and you keep using whatever backpack you have.
They save less space than a vacuum seal, and they don't make a big backpack fit a small sizer. Cubes also keep clothes sorted, which a single vacuum chamber doesn't.
5. A plain personal-item backpack: best for 1–3 night trips
For a weekend, a light backpack that measures 18 x 14 x 8 inches or less is often enough. It's the cheapest option and has the fewest parts to break. You just can't pack a week of clothes into it.
Which Airback alternative should you choose?
- Strict budget airline, short trip: Airback GO or the 17-inch Air Pro, both inside 18 x 14 x 8 in on paper.
- You want the pump included at the lowest price: Flovir Air Pro from $149.
- Two-week trips and rain: Black Voyage Zephyr Pro 35→60L.
- Most volume per dollar: VacPack, once you've read its refund policy.
- You want wheels or USB charging: stay with Airback (FLEX, MAX or Original).
Who should skip a vacuum backpack?
Compression shrinks volume, not weight. A packed vacuum bag still weighs what your clothes weigh. Linen and cotton shirts can come out creased, and you need the pump again every time you repack.
And with one sealed chamber, getting a single shirt means opening the seal. If you mostly pack suits or hard items, or you hate charging gadgets, a plain backpack with cubes will annoy you less. Our vacuum backpack buying guide walks through the checks before you buy any of these.
Airback alternatives: FAQ
Is there a cheaper alternative to Airback?
Yes. As listed in Oct 2026, the Flovir Air Pro starts at $149 with the pump included and the VacPack is $169.99, while Airback's Original starts at $219 without a pump. Compression cubes plus your own backpack cost less still.
Does the Airback come with a pump?
Not in the bag-only price. Airback sells the Air Pump Pro for $79 or bundles it as the Travel Ready Set (Original from $249). Their FAQ says the bag works without it, but the pump gives the best compression.
Is Airback the same company as Flovir?
No. Airback and Flovir are separate, unrelated companies. Airback's return address is in the Netherlands; Flovir ships from the USA.
Does a vacuum backpack count as a personal item?
Only if its measured size fits your airline's personal-item limit, such as American's 18 x 14 x 8 inches. Under-seat models like the Airback GO and the 17-inch Air Pro fit that on paper. Longer carry-on models don't.
If the pump-included option fits your trips, you can see the sizes and full specs on the Air Pro product page.
